The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust is the host trust for the North London Breast Screening Service (NLBSS), Central and East London Breast Screening Service (CELBSS) and the London Administration Hub.

NLBSS offers the opportunity to work in both static and mobile screening sites and screening assessment clinics on a rotational basis. The three static sites are at Edgware Community Hospital, Finchley Memorial and Forest Primary Health Care Centre. The areas covered include Barnet, Brent, Enfield, Haringey, Harrow, and parts of Hertfordshire.

As a group of services hosted by the Royal Free London, we offer one of the largest breast screening units across the national programme, with the opportunity to work across multiple sites in many different geographical locations across London.

Our team consists of advanced practitioners, mammographers, trainee mammographers, assistant practitioners, associate practitioners and associate practitioners carrying out the apprenticeship.

We are always keen to hear from individuals who hold the relevant mammography qualifications, mammographers who are looking to get back into clinical practice or have a keen interest in women’s health and are willing to undertake an apprenticeship in mammography.

This is a flagship service, which is progressive in thinking, friendly and supportive, offering a high quality service to all clients and patients. Our vacant positions offer variety and the opportunity to work in a stimulating and fast developing environment.

Service overview

Located less than 20 minutes by train from central London, SELBSP is hosted by King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

SELBSP serves an eligible breast screening population of approximately 250,000 women living in Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark. We take great pride in the quality and compassionate care we provide to women throughout their pathway.

The Breast Screening service is delivered from both our static units at King’s College Hospital in Denmark Hill, as well as our community-based mobile breast screening units at:

  • Bromley (The Phoenix Centre, BR2)
  • Sidcup (Queen Mary's Hospital, DA14)
  • Sydenham (Savacentre, SE26)
  • St Paul's Cray Medical Centre (BR5)
  • Memorial Hospital (Shooter’s Hill, SE18)

The clinical component of our large, dedicated Radiology team includes over 40 radiographers/mammographers, consultant radiologists, radiology trainees and radiology clinical nurse specialists.

At King’s, Breast Radiology is co-located with the Breast Care Unit and our team enjoys an excellent working relationship with surgical colleagues which is hugely beneficial to our patients. Staff employed through SELBSP also work within King’s busy symptomatic breast service.

Extended scope of practice for mammographers is encouraged, and we have consultant and clinical specialist radiographers within our workforce. Several senior mammographers support our service as film readers.

The onsite King’s National Breast Training Centre is nationally and internationally recognised for the calibre and range of breast training it provides for both mammographers and postgraduate medical staff.

South West London Breast Screening Service is hosted by St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

We are a large breast screening service with a population of approximately 240 000 women.

Screening and Assessment takes place at The Rose Centre at the St George’s Hospital site and we have also screening sites in:

  • Croydon (Edridge Road Health Centre)
  • Sutton (Robin Hood Health Centre)
  • Teddington (Teddington Memorial Hospital)
  • Surbiton (Surbiton Health Centre)
  • Purley (Purley War Memorial Hospital)
  • Roehampton (Queen Mary’s Hospital)

Co-located with SWL BSS at The Rose centre is St George’s Hospital Breast Symptomatic Service. Most of the staff employed through SWL BSS also work within this busy service.

We are a friendly and hard-working multi-disciplinary team that is committed to providing outstanding care for our screening clients and patients.

We actively promote extended scope of practice and embrace the four-tier structure currently employing Consultant Practitioner radiographers, Advanced practitioners whose roles include Radiographer image interpretation, Radiographer practitioners as well as Assistant and Associate practitioners; indeed our Director of Screening is a consultant radiographer.

The Rose Centre is home to the St George’s National Breast Education Centre. This renowned training centre offers a range of specialist study days for multi-disciplinary staff working within breast screening and supports national and international opportunities for clinical observership. Postgraduate Mammography Education remains popular with clinical training supported by a designated training team who all hold the Practice Education and Mentorship Postgraduate module as recognised by the Society of Radiographers Practice Educators Accreditation Scheme (PEAS). In January 2019, the team were the first in the country to deliver the Mammography Associate Practitioner Apprenticeship which continues to grow from strength to strength.

Welcome to the ONEL Breast screening service. We screen women that resident in the Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge area and our working hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm.

We currently employ a mix of Radiographers and Associate practitioners. Our department has a skill mix of both Mammographers from Advanced practitioners to Apprentice mammographers.

We are also currently recruiting for qualified Mammographers with a Post Graduate Certificate in Mammography as well as, qualified Associate Practitioner Mammographers.

Welcome to the WOLBSS Breast screening service. We screen women that are resident in the West London area and offer appointments at various west London sites 7 days per week.

We currently employ a mix of Radiographers and Associate Practitioners. Our department has a skill mix of Mammographers, Advanced Practitioners, Assistant and Associate practitioners.

We combine our Breast Screening unit with a busy symptomatic service and have a range of advanced imaging services, including Tomosynthesis and Tomosynthesis biopsies, Prone table procedures and Contrast enhanced mammography (CESM). Our Radiographic team are a friendly and professional group and we encourage everyone’s participation in advanced procedures.
